Paper Burner

As a practice I collect the garbage that produced at my home and those that decompose, put in the compost bin and the rest such as plastic bottles, wrappers, bags and some papers that contain heavy ink etc are burned. Burning them on the garden floor made a mess with the remains of partially burned stuff. So I created this burner. It burns to ash and does no have remains. It also burn wet and difficult to burn stuff when put after flame starts. It create less smoke since the oxygen supply is satisfactory from the bottom of the barrel (clean the hole when it covers with the ashes).

What you need for the project is as follows

  • Metal cutting saw/grinder
  • Drill
  • Rivet gun
  • Measuring tape
  • Wire cutter

  • Half height barrel
  • 12′ aluminium tube with 1/2″ diameter
  • 6 rivet
  • Wire mesh 6”x6” with 1” holes.

  1. In my case I used an empty carbide barrel it have a hole with about 6” diameter you may have to cut a hole with 6” diameter otherwise.
  2. Cut the barrel from center to create two half height barrels as given in the diagram.
  3. Place the wire mesh to cover the 6″ diameter hole.
  4. Cut the aluminium tube in to 6 pieces each with 2′.
  5. Flatten and bend in opposite angle each piece of tube as shown in the diagram.
  6. Bore holes at each end of the tube pieces.
  7. Rivet each tube pieces together. Make sure to rivet them loosely so you can rotate each pieces. Check the figure 1 and 2.
  8. Now put the barrel on the stand the stand will normally tend to expand so the stand will tightly fit at the barrel edge.
  9. That’s it. check the figure 4 for burner in action.

Please note that the ashes will fall off from the barrel so, put a collector under the barrel of place the barrel where you can collect ashes.
